Computer-generated nonsense at your touch
I'm posting about ChatGPT.
AI and ChatGPT are very popular on the internet because it has been shown that computer programs can mimic the most empty and banal sentences known to humans, given enough data input. At least, if I were a guy, that's the guy. The world is so stupid sometimes that you can't completely dismiss the "brain in a jar" hypothesis.
I'm not completely opposed to the idea. It's just that it's useful for idea generation, simple text writing (no more Lorem Ipsum), structured information, the occasional silly poem or song on a particular topic, etc.
But ChatGPT clearly has its limitations.
Although the former president seems to be into inappropriate or offensive content. I asked about the song where his hair gets sucked into a jet engine and got the same response.
Anyway, I started thinking about it when someone put a Washington Post quiz on a Discord conversation, asking people to recognize AI-generated content. I wasn't particularly interested in the answers to the text quizzes, as they were not only standard boilerplate but also covered topics I was not familiar with or interested in. I rarely read anything I was not actively interested in.
Meanwhile, Bhagpuss was working with ChatGPT last week, getting them to write reviews of games he hadn't played. The results were superficially convincing, but again, they didn't cover anything I really knew about.
So I decided to run some bots through topics I had more experience with. I played around with a biography of someone like my great-uncle. That's when I noticed ChatGPT's penchant for daydreaming.
But that was a pretty narrow problem. So I moved to video games and asked Blizzard to write a press release announcing that NFTs would be included in the next expansion for World of Warcraft. I got one. For Immediate Release
Blizzard Announces World of Warcraft's Next Expansion Will Include NFTs
Irvine, CA - Blizzard Entertainment has announced that World of Warcraft's next expansion, Shadowlands: Chains of Domination, will include NFTs (Non-Fungible Tokens).
The integration of NFTS will allow players to own and trade unique in-game items, such as mounts, weapons, and armor, supported by blockchain technology. This exciting new feature will provide players with a sense of ownership and authenticity, bringing new value to in-game assets.
“This integration allows us to explore new ways to engage our players and open up a new world of possibilities for the World of Warcraft community,” said J. Allen Brack, president of Blizzard Entertainment.
The introduction of NFTs to Shadowlands: Chains of Domination will provide players with new ways to immerse themselves in the rich, expansive game world. The integration will also give players more autonomy and control, enabling a more democratic and inclusive gameplay experience.
Blizzard is committed to ensuring that the implementation of NFTs in Shadowlands: Chains of Domination is a safe and secure experience for all players. The company has taken extensive measures to ensure NFTs are handled efficiently and securely, giving players confidence in the authenticity of their in-game items.
With Shadowlands: Chains of Domination scheduled for release later this year, Blizzard looks forward to bringing this exciting new feature to the World of Warcraft community. For more information, visit the official World of Warcraft website.
About Blizzard Entertainment Blizzard Entertainment (www. blizzard. com) is known for blockbuster hits such as World of Warcraft®, Hearthstone®, Overwatch®, Diablo® and StarCraft®. Blizzard Entertainment's track record includes 22 No. 1 games and numerous Game of the Year awards. The company's online gaming service, Battle. net®, is one of the largest in the world, with millions of active players.
As convincing as a Blizzard press release imitation is, it's less convincing when you know that Shadowlands was already an expansion and that J. Allen Brack passed away a few years ago. And did they really have 22 No. 1 games?
But I asked the bot to guess. So I chose a more direct method. He asked to write a simple history of Sony online entertainment. After all, this is that I have created the company's chronology before and have some knowledge. To be proud, I asked Microsoft's Bing Chatai and Google's Bard AI to answer the prompt in the same way.
Bing AI was directly gained, and there was no flower.
It's not a big deal, but it's like Bing AI style. Although it is not written too much, the details of various agencies, which are finally integrated into Sony's online entertainment, have been a bit vague to this day. At the time of the game magazine articles, names such as Verant, 989 Studios, and various groups in Sony were often replaced and used, and were sometimes used in the same article. The fact that 989 has progressed in another direction is not much in the article.
Bing was linked to the source despite its concise. Let's give this. And it was certain that SOE was sold to Columbus Nova, and that night was misleading even if it was modest. However, AI seemed to be satisfied with all of the Wikipedia articles, as if the fifth grade of elementary school wrote a report.
Google's Bald, on the other hand, does not have a signpost to reality, and spin a unique story that deviates from the reality I am living.
Sony Online Entertainment (SOE) is an American video game development company and publisher headquartered in San Diego, California. Founded in December 1997 as a subsidiary of Sony Computer Entertainment, he spi n-off in February 2015 as an independent investor and rebuilt as a game company Daybreak.
SOE was a major development company of mult i-grou p-participating online games (MMOG), with Evar Est, Evar Est II, Planets Side, Frees Relums, DC Universe Online, etc. were popular games. SOE has developed and published a number of single player games, including the Eva Est extended version, Matrix Online, and The Organization.
In 2015, SOE was acquired by the investment company Columbus Nova. The acquisition was believed to be for SOE to expand its expansion into new markets. However, the acquisition was not successful, and SOE was closed in 2017.
SOE's heritage is alive through games developed and published. "Evar Est" and "Evar Est II" are still popular MMOGs, and Planet Side is one of the best first person shooting games in history. SOE's single player games are also highly valued for their graphics, game play and story.
SOE is a pioneer in MMOG development, and their games have contributed to the formation of the online game industry. The company's heritage will survive through the game created by the company.
Wow, SOE, I'm lonely. But your heritage continues to live through single play titles such as Evar Est, Matrix Online, and Agency.
But Columbus Nova was also a point.
Now Baldo is the most new player in the scene, I have just accessed beta last week, so he probably hasn't given all the data necessary to properly receive this message. But the desire to run with the abandoned prompt and create another version of an event in his own version should keep it in mind ... because you are in a fantasy in another world.
Finally, Chatgptt.
Sony Online Entertainment (SOE) was established in 1995 as a Bellant Interactive by John Smedley, Brad McWad, Steve Clover and Bill Trost. The company initially focused on the production of video games for personal computers. Berant Interactive released his first game Eva Est in 1999. The simultaneous number of mult i-numbered online rol l-playing games (MMORPG) quickly gained popularity, and in 2000, Berant Interactive was acquired by Sony Pictures Entertainment.
After the acquisition, Berant Interactive changed its company name to Sony Online Entertainment (SOE), and SOE continued to develop and publish online games such as Star Wars Galaxy and Planetside. In 2005, SOE released the sequel to the original "Evar Est", "Evar Est II".
SOE has also released the FREE REALMS, a family online game that goes beyond the traditional MMORPG frame and enjoys a variety of play style combinations. In 2011, SOE released the DC Universe Online, a mult i-player online action game set on the DC Universe.
In 2015, SOE was sold to an investment company by Sony and renamed Daybreak Game Company. The company has continued to operate many games released by SOE so far, such as Evar Est, Evar Est II, and DC Universe Online. DAYBREAK GAME COMPANY has also launched new titles such as the zombie survival game "H1Z1" and the simultaneous number of people who participated in mult i-group "PlanetSide 2".
In 2021, the Dave Lake Game Company was acquired by Sweden's Video Game Company Enad Global 7. The acquisition included the rights of all games that SOE and the Dave Lake Game Company have published in the past. Currently, the company has been developing and publishing online games under the name of the daybrake game company.
There is a problem with this article. The date is incorrect. After all, we know that new games that were not released under SOE were not released under Daybreak. And it is certain that Verant was not "acquired" by Sony Pictures Entertainment in 2000. However, as mentioned above, the early history of SOE and the history of the organization, which were finally integrated into SOE, are a bit unclear.
Columbus Nova is omitted ... cowardly ... but the acquisition by Enadi Global 7 is continuing. No new games have been announced for years.
So I don't trust them to write something reasonable. At least, I would like to check these AIS for the most obvious details. The sky was blue, "said the date and the weather forecast when the date was and in winter. (Chatgpt does not talk about the weather on the previous date. He is asked to check the weather forecast).
Instead, the most impressive thing is probably the expected power coming from these AI bots.
I saw a person comparing AI bot with a 2 0-yea r-old man on the Internet. They have absolute confidence in their facts and are somehow wrong.
Similarly, I think the comparison with news reports is to some extent. The closer to the article, the more likely it is to find a mistake ... and I have never read a news article that does not include the facts of the facts ... but news The authority is assuming the truth without direct knowledge.

- For now, I have no plans to rely on AI beyond the occasional humor. Either way, I don't think I'd be able to craft a blog post that would fool the average reader. I hesitate on a lot of things in a way that an AI (or a 20-year-old man on the internet) doesn't.
- EverQuest at 24
Yesterday, EverQuest celebrated its 24th birthday. Did it miss the date this year? Blame it on travel and power outages. Anyway, here we are, an MMO that's been around for longer than I've been married (about half a year). So the game has been steaming at this point for nearly 15 years.
Once again, Filiona Vie appears in the celebratory art.
Drunk on Dragons
I thought I'd run out of things to say about the game at its 20th anniversary, but time doesn't stand still, and it seems Norrath doesn't either.
Not only is EverQuest a cornerstone of SOE and Daybreak's game story (I keep thinking about stretching this article to EG7 ERA), but it's also a continuing and ever-expanding product. DC Universe Online has a higher gross revenue, but EverQuest is so cheap that its net revenue is enviable). Last year, a 64-bit version was released. This year, there are a lot of advancements, including the 30th expansion and a now-reduced UI revamp.
EverQuest 2023 Roadmap
Of course, there will be celebrations in the game too. There will be bonus XP, special events, and free goodies. Read more here.
And so, another year of Norrath is about to pass. I wasn't that young when EverQuest started.

- SOE and Daybreak Game Schedule
- Daybreak Games is about to enter a new era. Now at the 25th anniversary of the company's seed being planted, and with the acquisition of Enad Global 7, the time seems ripe.
- First there was EverQuest.
- Firiona and friends at launch in 1999
- Around 1996, John Smedley, who worked in Sony, made a 3D mult i-player online fantasy game called Sojourn Mud / Torilmud, with Brad Ma c-Aid, Steve Clover, Bill Trost, and others. Ta.
- This game, released on March 16, 1999, include Sony Interactive Studios America, Berant Interactive, 989 Studio, Sony Computer Entertainment America, Sony Pictures, Sony Online Entertainment, etc. The organization name was related. My original disk and manual show the 989 studio logo to stand out, and some of the names of other companies are written in detail. Looking back on Everakest's 20 years, one magazine called a company that runs the game in Sony, Berant, and 989. It was a time of confusion.
- When Evar Est succeeded more than expected, a clear answer was finally given. This was a little surprise. Speaking of March 1999, it was before the era of influencers and social media. The Internet was not considered a serious news source, although Matt Drudies reported on Clinton and Ruinsky scandals, although at least a few people came to pay attention. However, many of us have still obtained game news through glossy monthly magazines, and posting full advertisements on the cover was the best way to attract attention.
- In early 1999, I don't remember such a game ad. I learned about this game because most people who were active in Torilmud at the time were invited to the beta version, usually from the Brad Macade character in the game. I refused the beta invitation, but I came to the opening.
- Not only was the advertising frequency, but there was no background to pay attention to the game. When UO was released at the end of 1997, Ultima's franchise had more than 15 years. The series created a studio called Origin Systems and created other famous games. Then, there was a Lord British who lived in the castle with the revenue of the Ultima Empire and decided to go to space. UO had the reputation, reputation, and pedigree lacking in the EQ.
- Nevertheless, at each peak, the EQ boasted more than twice the number of subscribers than UO.
- EQ seemed to spread by word of mouth. I bought it at Fry's from work at home on the day of release, then came to the office and told some people. Everyone went out and bought a copy and we played it together. Then they told everyone, and I told everyone, and other people who played it told everyone, and before long the people I was talking to already knew about it, and we had a song called "Has anyone seen my corpse?". That song started being sung, and it became a bit of a social phenomenon.
- And it succeeded in solidifying the idea of online games at Sony, and eventually a lot of names were dropped on Sony Online Entertainment.
- This is not an exhaustive list, and I'm not going to try to compile anything before March 16, 1999, or beta versions of various games. Early Access is a different story. And I'm going to try not to compile it, but it's not easy for me to do that. If I've missed something important, please leave a note or comment and I'll update the article.

And the new year is celebrated. What will happen to EG7 after 2021?
My blog pleasure is that there is a blog post that corresponds to most items in the above lists over the past decade. I thought about linking each of them, but stopped. If you want to find an article about the EQII passport, etc., use the search box at the top of the page.
Before 2010, the blog update was more chaotic, and of course there was no blog before September 2006, so there is nothing to report. Fortunately, in 2016, I wrote an article about the SOE and its MMORPGS, a record of their games, and in the past. This blog is not all about BLACKROCK and the abyss of World War II.
And Wikipedia is still a great resource. It has well-maintained pages listing most of the EverQuest and EverQuest II games and all of the expansions, which I found very helpful. Also, Daybreak has a server merge page for Everquest and a server merge page for Everquest II on their site. There are some bugs, but the dates seem stable.
As for what to include, I'm biased towards games I play or have played. I tried to include all of the paid expansion content for games. Game content updates are more vague, but someone has recorded every episode drop for DC Universe online on this Wikipedia page. I wasn't a huge contributor. I started to get into dedicated servers, but when it became an annual thing in 2015, I decided to declare it and move on.
A long series on Phippy Darkpaw
This is the last post of the Darkpaw Fippy server era. As the servers merged yesterday, the Fippy DarkPaw Fippy server merged into the VOX server as part of the server merger Daybreak announced for their anniversary. This long-running server, which started in early 2011, has finally come to an end.
Classic Fippy Darkpaw
At the end of 2010, Soe said they were going down the nostalgia road. They tried this in June 2006 with The Combine and Sleeper, but this wasn't the first time.
It always seems a bit crazy to me that they were already down that road 14 years ago. RO Prophecy was the current expansion at the time, with Snake's Spine in reserve, and they were still releasing two expansions a year.
Once again, I waited about five years to try again with the Fippy DarkPaw server.
- Fippy's announcement on the day
- And like its predecessor, Fippy Darkpaw was so popular at launch that they had to develop another server to keep up with the demand.
- This was the precursor to the current period. Back then, they seemed to think that dedicated server cards were only available often, so they took a long time between launches.
- They also had a lot to learn about promoting these servers. One of my complaints about the Fippy Darkpaw era was that they launched it and then ignored it shortly thereafter, other than announcing expansion unlocks.
- This was also a race in which the next unlock voting was determined by how quickly the top team had completed the current expansion content. Still, we needed voting, but we had to reach the cap to vote, so Raid Guild was dominant ... at least until the "discord gate".
- SOE seems to have a plan to track the server progress graphically, and an extended unlock status bar was displayed on the website, and a destination tracker was displayed below.
- LUKLIN Open
- Perhaps they thought the tracker would be a substitute for actual GM warning and announcement. It was better than doing nothing ... until it doesn't work.
- At that time, SOE was a bigger company, and as I felt after that, the game was pulled in various directions. The daybrake (every year) was forced to slim, and the Holly Long Dale faction won, and began to seriously promote retro and dedicated server ideas.
- Surprisingly, I found that doing something every year can attract both old and new players. This is the same this year. While FIPPY DARKPAW has left, two new servers will be released next week, following the tradition and tracking the trajectory of The Combine and FIPPY DARKPAW.
- Now, it's time to complete the server history. I have been trying to make something like a server chronology. Originally, I just completed Expansion and unlock, but I also injected the other things that happened during that time.
- On February 15, 2011, the FIPPY DARKPAW server released with classical EQ content.

And so it goes. I'll write about my own time on the server at a later date. But for now, I say goodbye to SOE's second nostalgia experiment. May the idea continue to thrive. Everquest II at age 15 and memories of what could have been
I think I've told this story before... maybe a few times... but playing Everquest II at launch was really the last decision I ever made. Meklin... or Gaff... or Lalik... or Tim as I call him these days... we'd been playing Remnant/Trilumud together for the last ten years, and he was suddenly drawn to the idea of playing Everquest II.
EQII advertisement from the August 2004 issue of Computer Gaming World.
I wasn't really paying attention. For various reasons, I stopped Everak Est, gave my account to a friend still playing, and did mult i-boxing (they did not change the password, so when I returned to that account, I checked all my characters. It was deleted). Basically, I played a single player game, an online match base game like Delta Force and Battlefield 1942. I knew some people playing EQ and DAOC, but I didn't care. I didn't have much time and I didn't feel like that.
At the beginning of 2003, Torilmud, who had been away for a while, revived, and some of the people I knew gathered. I returned to Trilmdo again, and the last stretch became my main game. But while I was at the cap level, I entered the guild and performed a regular belt, the rumors of Evar Est II spread.
There was a strong connection between Torilmud and the EQ, and many EQ developers, including Brad Mcquaid, lived in Torilmud and became a major template for the EQ. From the course to the death mechanism, many of the early EQ roots were in trilmd.
So, if a new Evert Est would come out, it was natural for everyone to pay attention. But I wasn't. But Tim was listening to a new game report. I wrote off that someone wrote that I was in the beta. He wanted to participate in a new game and missed the early Evar Est. So many people from our guild ... he, CHANDIGAR, PRIL, OTEB, and some others ... at the same time as released, played Everquest II.
Or rather, almost at the same time as the release.
It wasn't in time for the first round of the server. But the SOE team had a launch plan to make a new server online when the current server was full. As a result, we will participate in the launch of the Crushbone server 15 years ago, 15 years ago, on November 13, 2004.
EQ2's first screensho t-November 14, 2004
We entered the server, took evacuation islands, arrived in the town, and finally formed a guild the next day.
Guild with crashbone
The guild was a mixture of Torilmud players and EVERQUEST players, including friends of TIM. All of us were united and became the Knights of Cathalism.
Eva r-Est II is based on the catacrism, the lunar destruction, which offers rubble rain, spread land, destroy the continent, recreate the landscape, and start with a certain way to start with a certain zero.
The game is a successor to the Eva Est, which reigns as a fantasy MMORPG champion and boasts more than 550, 000 subscribers, and is expected to inherit the original tradition. The title of CGW's Jeff Green was "King One and Future"!
Unfortunately, it turned out to be appropriate as a metaphor for this game. There were many problems during launch. For open users, the system requirements were too high, so many EQ users could not even consider the transition to new games. And the transition was clearly the center of SOE's plan.
There were countless bad assumptions, bad functions, and changes at the last minute. The game had already been "late" for a year or so, so it seemed that the need to start was moving a lot of the process up to that point ... it was hindering the game.
Some of them were independent. The story that the EQII team had to leave the original game and create unique knowledge has been handed down for a long time. Although the craft was maintaining the same progressive structure, it was a su b-class for players, so it was a unique class in the beta version. The class maintained the complexity and mutua l-dependent hyper textbooks.
The class of the adventure has a strange prototype system that selects either fighter, rogue, cleric, or magic in advance, is skilled at level 10, is skilled again at level 20, and becomes the final class at that point. Ta. However, there were too many classes, there were too many races, and there were not enough character slots (only four).
If you want a smooth movement with leveling, group division was almost essential. Some zones were locked behind the group quest. Then you can pass through. And many spells could only be cast by group members, as SOE listened to those who complained about twin in the forum. The age of chanting the wolf spirit with a grateful bass is over.
And there was a basic problem like a belt. The market was heading for seamless ideas around the world, but EQII still had a belt. And there was no illusion of a single world like an equation. The place was divided into an area that visited through gates and bells. There may have been a problem solved by this approach, but the world of the game has diminished.
If there was a rig that could be displayed, the color scheme would not be turbid but not bad, but when it was picked up, it was a bit too strange to get into a strange valley, and I was dissatisfied.
On the other hand, the game market itself was changing. In March 1999, when Evar Est was released, there were other MMORPGs, but they were completely different. Ultima Online was an isometric thir d-person perspective. Meridian 59 was all PvP, and when Ashlons Call was released, it had different evolution philosophy. These were all slightly different titles.
By the end of 2004, more games appeared in this genre. Dark age of camelot is like an EverQuest with PvP, but it has become a hot topic that there is no "worst". News of other competitors have already been reported. GUILD WARS was taking a spotlight. Brad Ma c-Aid has already left SOE with the original members of Evar Est, arguing that Vanguard: Saga of Heroes is the successor to the Naulus. And, of course, that title of Blizzard was also reported.
Therefore, the metaphor of Katakurism (such as a fluctuation) seemed to be appropriate.
Not everything was bad. The housing system of this game and the good of integration into games, including occupations specializing in furniture, are still outstanding in the other MMORPGs I played. The fre e-shaped decorations, the functions of decorating trophy from the adventure on the wall, and the functions of my own front shop in the game were very functional.
As a group, as a guild, we have been committed to this game for almost a year. But we were more like an exception rather than the rules. Those who were not familiar with the new world often returned to Evar Est.
But a few weeks after we first logged in, World of WarCraft was released, and many people who did not return to EVERQUEST moved to Wow.
After the release of WOW, SOE knew that he would face the problem immediately, and the game began to change to respond to it. Azeros's big yellow excitement and a small pretzel and book for quest providers, the EQII version of the Quest Mark. Trade skills have been updated. Offline sales were also performed. At about 20 levels, the emphasis on grouping was somewhat eased. Many group meetings at Thundering Steppes have become solo meetings. The buff became a more reasonable timer. The trip was confused.
On the other hand, SOE enthusiasts did not get bored with more content ... EQ was in the era of "Expansion twice a year" ... it was a part of it. It meant that expansion appeared before people reached the ceiling.
In less than a few months, people began to decline. Guild Com was looking for a Vanguard, who is convinced that everyone will be the true successor of the EQ. Later, many of the guild Torilmud faction flowed to WOW and settled on the Eldre'Thalas server.
And 15 years later, this game is still there.
Just as Splash Screen is proudly declared ... this is an original Ever t-Est box
The game has been updated, changed, and r e-arranged for many years. Even now, a new extended version is still released every year, which is much larger than many games in this genre. People are looking for another world where WOW has not been released, but I don't think the game will be more popular. At the time of release, it was messed up, but it took a long time to mature, so the game now can be played different from the past ... but still there are still too many shit skills.
Surprisingly, I think the reason that the concept of a progressive server in EQII is not as popular as the EQ is that the game has changed dramatically.
In EQ, the old location looks almost the same. Freeport has been updated, but QEYNOS and FayDurn remain 1999. Even if the Progress Server is not a pure 1999 experience, you can usually feel the flame of nostalgia by raising your eyes round.
But what about EQII? How does daybreak start simulating early EQII confusion and dysfunction? In 2004, a lot of things changed so that it could not be returned. Daybreak has no free resources to reproduce the original game.
Evar Est Progress Server VS WOW Classic
In recent years, one of my main reasons for supporting WOW Classic ideas is a progress server created by SOE and Daybreak for many years, starting with The Sleeper and THE COMBINATION in 2007.
Several extension splash screen
Even from the first rough line, there was a lot to learn. Including the idea that the company may be more popular than expected and the company may need to develop another server.
In the SOE era, the idea of a dedicated server was cold, and I started with fanfare, but I did not mention the server again in the official place, but DAYBREAK is a continuous business plan with a nostalgic theme of dedicated server. did. Holly Longdale says that the number of players in EQ is more likely to be in 2019 than in 2015, because of the Nostargia of Nolas for the hom e-based clinic.
So now Blizzard is dealing with Nostalgia in Wow Classic and is clearly successful. However, looking at the different paths that daybreak and blizzard have walked before reaching each position, how each game has evolved over time in terms of how they followed their ideas. Interesting in points.
Classic splash screen~The idea of this post was brought by BHAGPUSS comments on posts that were struggling to find a clear answer to the meeting stones. He pointed out that information on the Wow Classic mechanism is not as easy as a daybreak game. In places like Wow Head, we were able to reproduce the WOW classic website that covers a lot of missions and locations, but not as comprehensive as we discovered.
On the other hand, if you start discovering something related to EverQuest, you will notice that old articles that have not been updated for more than 10 years are quite suitable for both live and progressive servers.
This is, of course, how SOE and daybreak at the time approached the idea of nostalgia. While Blizzard used its own version of client to reproduce the 2006 experience, the EVERQUEST progress server operates on the same client as the live and depends on the same components and resources.
This is definitely for some reasons, but the lack of resources is the first. Blizzard has a budget and budget that only makes something like Wow Classic, but the EVERQUEST team has not had such opportunities since the early days. The team has created an extended version twice a year for a long time, and the extended version made a profit and maintained the subscriber.
There was also a lack of commitment to the idea of nostalgia. Only eight years after the release of Evar Est, in 2007, it is worth praising that SOE has started this idea, but only in the daybreak era, SOE seriously addresses this idea and realizes the idea of a nostalgic server. The resources were devoted to some of the problems that fans were dissatisfied from the first round.
However, SOE and daybreak at the time were able to escape the approach to the halfway progressive server.
Currently, if you log in to the EVERQUEST live server, you can walk around the old zones that are almost untouched since the release. The EQ team released an extended version one after another and added a zone.
SOE updated some old world zones, such as free ports, but many content were left unattended and almost never looked. You can add a new zone link for another extension, and in some places Volume of Knowledge has been added to lead people to Field of Knowledge, but in most cases, walk around the old zone. Well, they look like before.
There is also the fact that the group did not go wrong in the refresh rank at each expansion. Even if you gather warriors on live servers and progress servers, they will always start with the same skills as before. The spells were a little refreshed, and the aspect of every five levels was lost at a certain point, but otherwise, at almost the same time I got in 1999, 2007, 2011, and 2018. I have WOLF.
In this environment, which does not add much to the old zone, the ranks from level 1 to 20 and 50 are almost the same as in 1999, and the content is provided in small kiosk only. Fippy Dark Po is still open in the 1999 Gate Gate. So you can deal with some variations in the access bands, play with the experience buffer, and end that day. < SPAN> There was also a lack of commitment to the idea of nostalgia. Yes, Project 1999 and Purist are trying to recreate every detail of the original game. (They also have new servers.) I admire the effort, but it feels a bit like a niche, a desire to give back the whole experience. Daybreak already offers about 80% of the experience in one... I was going to write "modern customers" but let's not be silly... A supported client that gets updates on servers that get a lot of traffic.
Compare that to Blizzard's lot.
The elephant in the room is the Cataclysm expansion, which repeats old content, updates the old world to allow flight, adds adjacent zones to classic zones, and essentially shakes up the container fundamentally. This is ground zero for the "no old content" movement.
But this is only the most obvious example of change. Blizzard stirs the pot with every expansion. Sometimes I laugh at the calls for "Wow 2. 0". Hot Crusade was literally WOW 2. 0, and while the changes were not as dramatic as Cataclysm, it changed the game the day it dropped, as King Lich's Wrath, Panaria's Mists, and others did. And while Blizz gives us a new city with each expansion, they keep us in both Stormwind and Orgrimmar, with gates to facilitate return and the auction house to act as a magnet.
I've written that Wow Classic's Hunter is very different from retail, but even simple ranks show changes. Compared to the current EverQuest Warrior Wheel, a rolling one in retail Wow is nothing like the experience of 2004 or 2006. You go from different content with different skills to different skill paths to unlock different talents in different talent trees.
In this environment, there is no cheap outlet to create something like a vanilla wow experience. Because 1-60 looks different, plays different, is almost different.
I think that's why it's hard to find information about WoW Classic, as Bhagpuss pointed out. There hasn't been a static, almost sedimentary layer of development like EverQuest for years, as Blizzard has been shaking up the game and each layer with every expansion. A 15-year-old article about Alakazam is still relevant only because SOE and Daybreak have revised some content and moved on. Blizz doesn't do it that way. Blizz changes the whole world, touching most of it.
In 24-month cycles. There was no easy path back to vanilla.
That's why Blizzard kept the idea of vanilla WoW and things like the now-famous J. Allen Brack series away for at least a decade. In August 2009, I was already mentioning the calls for a "classic" Azeroth server. Private servers offering vanilla experiences were already pretty common 7 years ago when I was involved with the Emerald Dream server. But it took Blizzard to get there until they decided to play the nostalgia card after retail continued to fall.
Daybreak got an imperfect nostalgia because they were doing content delivery that was more silo focused. Blizzard had a more perfect nostalgia, but they had a tendency to change the world, so they had to remake it as a new client.
I think the lesson here is to plan for nostalgia... at least if you think the game will last 15 or 20 years.
Thoughts on the 20th anniversary of EverQuest
I was dreaming when I wrote this, so forgive me if I'm getting too early, but life is just a party, and parties don't last long.
- Prince, 1999
What can I say about my 20th year of gaming. The evolution of the game, the way the company has been treated, the way players have been stored, its place in the various historical contexts over the past 20 years... there is a lot of emotion and history surrounding the game.
EverQuest Goods at Home
I've told the story many times before about how I found out about EverQuest through people playing Trill MUD, and some of them developed EQ. I've also told the story of how I broke the beta. And how on March 16, 1999, I stopped at Fry's on my way home and bought EQ, and when I got home and installed it, I was immediately stuck.
It was a game like nothing I'd ever played before. The influence of Trillmud was obvious, but that only added to the familiarity. But EQ was different as well. A lot had to change to accommodate the 3D world. Being open-world, being on the edge of the misty Chaos hills, being far beyond the Calans, being in the dangers of Blackburrow, being in the sewers beneath Chaos, and having those places teem with other people made EQ new and different.
But now, 20 years later, I thought I'd dig back and see if I could add something new to what I might have written before. This blog has been going for so long that I have posts for the 8th, 10th, 13th, 15th anniversary, etc.
Launch screen 17 years later
Sharing a few words about Norrath on March 16th is as trustworthy as the Queen's Christmas message.
Honestly, it's a game I've barely played in the life of the blog.... except for a burst of activity around Fippy Darkpaw Time Locked Server Progression in 2010.... I've had a few posts about it. At last accounting, it was the fourth most popular category on this blog, and I don't even boost the monthly count with review posts.
A chart celebrating the 15th anniversary
Anyway, I had the idea to sink in some context before and after the game started. After all, in my mind, pre-launch/post-launch of EverQuest is one of the big divides in the world. In its own way, it changed everything.
I remembered the World Capsule Calculator late last year, and it occurred to me to go and look at the March 1999 issue of the magazine. It was called Evercrack back then, and they couldn't open a server right away. They got 200, 000 players by the end of the year. It must have been a big deal, right?
- The archive space was up and running as far as I went.
- There was nothing on the cover of the March 1999 issue, but it was probably mentioned in the magazine. Or maybe it wasn't. The . pdf file is a scan of the magazine, not text, so I couldn't search for the name, but it wasn't there. There wasn't even an entry for EverQuest in the pipeline section that tracks game release schedules (though Duke Nukem Forever was mentioned, with TBD as the target).
- Well, in the magazine business, cover dates typically indicate deadlines, so the March issue was probably copy from January or early February at the latest. So I looked at the April and May issues.
- There was nothing there. No references. Not even ads. (By June, EverQuest was listed among the software ordering ads in the back of the magazine.
- And it wasn't as if readers were unaware of online games. In sporadic user polls (looking through the archives, it felt like a few different people edited CGW, so things would appear and disappear from month to month), Ultima Online and Merdidian 59 were on the April 1999 list.
- April 1999 RPG Chart
- EverQuest wasn't mentioned until much later, but one issue listed three companies: Sony, Bellant, and 989 Studios. It was complicated to get it all together as SOE. The September 1999 issue had a column about selling virtual goods (inspired by a Time magazine appearance). There's also a quote from Brad McQuade about virtual worlds.
- EverQuest didn't make it into CGW's coverage until the June 2000 issue (EverQuest Expansion!), and then again in 2001. It doesn't get its own coverage until the December issue (in the shadow of the Lucrin Expansion).
- The glory of Firiona vie?
- Surely SOE doesn't have an ad for EverQuest in the magazine.
- But the real irony here is which game was on the cover of CGW last month.
Advertising for World of Warcraft 3 years ago
That's right, World of Warcraft was on the cover of the magazine more than 2. 5 years after Everquest was launched, and more than 3 years before Everquest was launched.
I understand that CGW wasn't the be-all and end-all of computer game magazines. PC Gamer had a review of Everquest in it by June 1999, and Metacritic features some early reviews, so it seems to have had some traction, though not as much as you might imagine. But CGW's archives are handy, and looking at the covers and reviews, it's clear they were keen to feature anything that looked popular. There are a lot of well-known games on their pages.
However, it reminds me that when Evar Est was released, it was not a hot product that some of my brains thought. Its popularity came later. I remember going to the release on the release date, but I don't remember how I knew that day. I knew it in the link of Torilmud, so it might have been that. And the first few months grew significantly by word of mouth. He played on the first night, then came to the office and told his colleagues that he should get this game. And spread to other friends. Eventually, this game spread, and I noticed that the people I met were already playing.

After a while, the game began to fill other places, began to be called Ever Crack, the virtual world and virtual economy became a hot topic, and songs about lost corpses began to run through the web.
1999 Evar Est Trivia
The cover of this EVERQUEST is referenced. STAR WARS GALAXIES has begun to be reported long ago when CGW was released. Then, when EVERQUEST II was released in 2004, an unusual Antonia Bayle liner was posted on the cover of the December issue, and an advertisement on the spread of 6 pages was posted on the inside (and NVIDIA marketing advertisements. 2 pages, the advertisement of STAR WARS GALAXIES spreads 2 pages).
CGW 2004 December 2004 Evert II on the cover of the issue of the December issue
Jeff Green appeared in a game entitled "ONE and FUTURE KING".
Until then, MMORPG (and gold seller) has often appeared in CGW ads, all of which have all small games, Dark Age of Camelot, Saga of Ryzom, The Matrix Online, and World of Warcraft. WOW decorated the cover before the EQ, and then EQII opposed WOW and monopolized the release cycle report.
However, Soe was supposed to be a natural successor dominating the genre of the MMORPG as Everk Est was on track. Evar Est and Nolas are the natural foundations of his house. Evar Est has survived for 20 years and continues to expand because many people challenged at the start of the service.
Ultima Online first appeared, Eva r-Est II looked better, World of Walkraft has seized the throne, but there is no one that sinks what Evar Est has started at the time.
Perhaps some kind of party lasts a long time.
Speaking of immortal, it is appropriate to overlap with the number of blogs on the memorable year of Evar Est.

I don't know where the post began, but I assembled it a few months ago and then slept in the project folder. At the beginning of this week, I look again at an active vision entry, and I'm planning to release it today.

No problem. Look at how much money we earned first.

MMORPG Preservation and Reality
Last Friday, news broke that the Library of Congress announced that it would grant exceptions to the Digital Millennium Copyright Act for institutions interested in preserving online games, MMOs, and the like.
Previously, exceptions were granted for standalone video games that were no longer available through publishing or other means. Federal Register here.
Документ охватывает несколько решений. 5 и 7, так что, вероятно, это должен был быть раздел 6, поскольку пос 7 years ago 7 years ago 8 years old, 8 years old 3D-печати. правительстве нная документация.
The decision was greeted with almost global praise in a niche genre of MMO fans who became a dead language. The Digital Art Entertainment Museum (Made for Short or Video Game Museum), which is about 40 minutes by car from my house, has given me particular strength. They were participating in competition to make it happen, so when the decision was announced, they were there with a smile. They tweeted on Twitter gained enthusiastic support in the comments section of the Massit OP:
Just in case, let's introduce this tweet:
Twitter fans: Find those who can legally get the server code of Star Wars Galaxy and the server code of City of Heroes. If they agree to pass the server code, they can return these games online.
This memo contains the species of the problem we are facing. If you take the time to look at the linked document, you may have come across a paragraph that starts with this sentence:
Active registry has determined that in a relatively special situation in which maintenance institutions legally owned the server code and local game codes, they support the extension.
There is a problem there. To be within the scope of the law, that is, to be legally protected, the maintenance foundation, such as Made Reated, must legally obtain a copy of the server software. As far as I know, the only way to do this is to get a copy directly from a company that owns these game rights.
First, there is a problem of what kind of infrastructure is required for such a server.
Certainly, the people who make these server emulators are doing it cheaply using something close to it, so you may think this is fine. However, the software of the official server is not designed to move on the desktop machine. This is not an automatic release. This can be a problem because simple things such as operating systems and patches required for database connection are assumed. Server software may not work as supplied without an ecosystem made to work on it.
Made wants to run Habitat somehow, but this was not only a simpler game, but also source code. I don't think many MMORPG do this for the reasons listed below. But at least this is a technical problem, and it can solve it with enough time and effort.
Next, you need to know who actually has the software and what kind of format it is.
Let's take Star Wars Galaxy as an example. This ended in mi d-December 2011, almost seven years ago. At that time, it was operated by Sony Online Entertainment, a small gear of a huge machine called Sony.
When resuming with JABA
About three years later, SOE was acquired and became a daybreak game company. From the past to the present, all SOE games may be associated with this acquisition. But I don't know if it was. SWG was a license IP, so it may have been too complicated, cost too much, or not desirable. It may be still stored in Sony.
And if you find who has it, you need to make sure that the software is still archived in an accessible way. Server software, unlike clients, is on hundreds of thousands of installation disks. Server software does not exist on hundreds of thousands of installation disks like client software. You may need to run a build system to create a copy.
Let's talk like this.
In the middle of the first year of the century, the company I used to work on has called a former famous consumer movie company and demanded a server software patch purchased nearly 10 years ago. 。 It was on IBM OS/2, and we had a long time to Windows Server. The OS/2 system build machine was placed in the lab. The drive did not spin up only when someone decided to turn on the system on the main machine drive. And the file was backed up on the of f-site, but no one could rebuild the build system. And it was all before the company was forced to elucidate the problem that the company had, update the code, and release it.
The company that called had not renewed their maintenance contract. We were surprised they were still running our software. They probably could have, but the work required was not trivial. Even if the company was willing to pay us, we had a better path forward. Software development is as much about what you choose to focus on as what you do.
If you wouldn't do it for money, you wouldn't do it for free. And since no company is going to let an outsider go around looking for such software, finding it will rely on current insiders getting permission from the company to look for things on their own time. This is not impossible, but there are probably very few candidates up to the task.
And finally, there is the question of who can legally provide the server software.
All of the above are solvable problems, and can be done if the right people volunteer their time and effort. But getting the right people to buy into this kind of project feels like the biggest hurdle.
I would say with certainty that there will be no Star Wars Galaxy preservation anytime soon. At the very least, Disney, who owns the IP rights, needs to move this forward, which I'm not seeing happen. Mickey Mouse won't even get out of bed unless you pay him.
Now let's look at city of heroes. This one is easy. NCSoft owns all the rights, so there should be no problem dealing with IP issues. There shouldn't be a problem, right?
The server software is not found in isolation. Even if we ignore the previous issues, it is highly likely that Cryptic licensed third-party libraries, utilities, and other assets to create the game when developing "city of heroes". This license does not allow NCSoft to distribute the server software.
By the way, this is part of the answer to the question of why companies don't publish their games when they shut them down. If you don't own all the code, you can't do it.
- In order to be covered, Ncsoft must dismantle all the software thir d-party aspects and obtain the license of the license business. In my intuition, ncsoft will not do that, and I think it's not easy to take in all aspects of third party.
- However, if you can get over all of them, you can enjoy MMORPG at the museum.
- And I don't want to delve into the question of which version of the game to leave. The answer just offenders people. Probably not a launch version, nor a version of the era of the game. Perhaps it will be the final version that can be obtained from the build system.
- If you look at this alone, it will be enough to start with the emulator. Is that easier? You can do whatever you want. And just put it in your museum.
Well, there is a paragraph for "decision".
However, the registration book did not recommend exceptions that allowed the preservative to not legally own the server software. He also determined that the recording of server software of video games as described by the proposer is likely to be fair use. Several scenarios explained by the proposer are not already with server software preservation in the collection of institutions, but rather, instead of server reconstruction from remote areas. This activity is said to distinguish between the proposer's demands and the preservation activities, which are a problem in the case law they depend on. He also pointed out that reconstruction of copyrighted works accompanied by the exclusive rights for the copyright holder to create secondary works.
- In other words, don't eat cheeseburger. The reconstruction is not saved. Whether you get the real thing or get anything at all.
- And that happens. The MMO preservation door was slightly open, but there are still many problems on the road.

- Finally, I would like to point out that in the abov e-mentioned THE MADE tweet, I think I am so careless that I can mislead. I'm really angry with this phrase:

So, even if any of these passes, you won't suddenly be able to play City of Heroes, Star Wars Galaxy, and other closed MMOs. This was not done to play video games. You can't see what is preserved unless you go to Auckland to visit Maid Abrat.
Still, what is allowed to visitors? MMO is a strange creature. Like Donkey Kong, the interaction parameters are different, and when they are in a "playover" state, not everything starts again. - How do you handle this kind of game in a mai d-like place?
- Do you make a new character for randomly entered? Do you prepare a specific template character so that people can walk around? Is it okay for people wandering around the world to die or change the position of the character in the world in an irreparable way? Do you want to save the progress? Do you want to erase your progress every night? < SPAN> Twitter is always a problem, but if you don't have a necessary context, you will think that if you get the server code, people will shoot your customers and play your favorite MMO ending. - If you look at this alone, it will be enough to start with the emulator. Is that easier? You can do whatever you want. And just put it in your museum.

Information
From Prince Charles to EverQuest's Queen Elizabeth II, better informed and more progressive in many ways, but still doomed to live forever in the shadow of her parent on a tiny island that dominates half the known world. Now, after a decade, 12 expansions and 4 adventure packs, I think it's fair to say that EQII has succeeded as a genre with its own dedicated fanbase.
