In King's Landing, Tywin Lannister presides over a meeting of the Small Council, including the newly appointed Mace Tyrell and Oberyn Martell. First, the party discusses the Hound sighted in the Riverlands. Tywin demands a large ransom for Clegane's head. Barristan Selmy and Jorah Mormont offer advice, the army is strong, and the dragons are growing. Cersei is skeptical, but the other council members agree that the Targaryens are a threat. Tywin decides to act. Afterwards, Prince Oberyn meets with Varys in the Throne Room. Oberyn asks how the eunuch got from Rhys to King's Landing. Varys replies that he would only tell that story to someone he trusts. Jaime Lannister arrives at Tyrion's cell and, following his father's orders, puts his brother's hands in chains. Tyrion is ushered into the Throne Room, where a large crowd of spectators awaits his trial. King Tommen steps aside and introduces the judges: Tywin Lannister, Mace Tyrell, and Oberyn Martell. Tywin presides over the case and calls the royal witnesses. Kingsguard knight Meryn Trant takes the stand first, recalling Tyrion's threats against Joffrey. Grand Master Pycelle reveals that the potion used to kill the king, containing a rare and deadly poison, was stolen from his supplies. The Maester produces Sansa's necklace, which he retrieved from Dontos Hollard's body, and explains that he found traces of the Strangler in the gemstone. Varys recalls Tyrion's misdeeds at the Small Council and suggests that the accused became sympathetic to the Northern cause after his marriage to Sansa. Tyrion is allowed to speak with Varys and reminds the eunuch that he saved the city. Varys assures him that he has not forgotten.

During the break, Jamie approaches Taiwin about the farce play that seems to be in the trial. Jamie trades with his father: If Tiwin helps Tillion's life, Jamie will take over his house name. Taiwin accepts it. If Jamie returns the guard of the guard and arrives at the Castle Rock, Tilion is allowed to join the Knights Watch. Jamie explains the conditions to Tilion and pleads to his brother to squeeze his mouth.

The royal family summons the following witnesses, and Tillion is appalled to see the share entering.
