World plug type: Preparing for travel

Mobile phones, laptops and dryers are all in a suitcase, but can you use it when you arrive at your destination? Not all countries share the same type of plug. Spain uses Type C, but there are 16 different models in the world.

Why not all countries use the same plug?

The basic reason that the same type of plug is not used in all countries is that it is due to no n-globalized technology development, and there is no consensus between manufacturers and the country.

In retrospect, the competition for electricity began from the end of the 19th to the early 20th century. But at that time, it was unlikely that the world would change so much that we would travel around the world with appliances.

Almost all electric equipment, whether on a lamp, a radio, a television, or an industrial machine. Therefore, the plug could only be adjusted to the type of the wall plug. A few years later, nobody imagined that he would travel, surrounded by mobile phones, cameras, dryers, headphones, and everything that would happen.

For this reason, each manufacturer initially chose plugs based on the most popular plug in the country that sells appliances.

As a result, there are now 16 types of plugs around the world. Each has an alphabet. From A type to N type. Here, let's look at all the plug models in the world.

Spain and European plug type

The bes t-known plug type is C type, sometimes called "Euro Plug". This type of plug is mainly used in most countries in Spain and Europe.

Types of the world plug

US and Japanese plug types

Both plug types A and B feature two parallel flat pins with small holes. Usually, one of the two pins on the plug is thicker than the other.

These are the plugs found in the US and Japan, and you will need an adapter to convert your cable from your type C plug to this model with flat pins and a wall slot.

The difference between type A and type B is that type B plugs have a rounded third pin and are slightly longer than flat plugs. This third pin is used to connect to earth after you plug it in.

Type G plug is most common in the UK

The plug type in the UK and Ireland is G, although the most common in Europe is Type C.

The pin or male is a triangular or T-shaped arrangement of three rectangular flat pins. The third pin on this type of plug acts as an earth and there is also a fuse inside the plug. Indian plug: Type D

Type D is an adaptation of the UK plug, but the shape of the pins has been changed from rectangular to rounded. It is reminiscent of the Spanish plug with the addition of a third pin.

The third pin is higher than the other two, slightly longer and thicker, and is used as an earth.

Like the UK plug, the Indian plug (Type D) is also used in countries with strong ties to India, such as Nepal and Sri Lanka. Namibia also uses this plug model, and is the only country in Africa that uses it as its main model.

What plugs are used in Australia and New Zealand?

The plug type used in Australia and New Zealand is Type I, characterized by three flat/rectangular pins arranged in a V-shape. The top pin, which is inserted vertically, connects to earth.

This is the type of plug used in Australia, New Zealand and Papua New Guinea.

Type I is less common, but is becoming more prevalent in map plug types around the world, as it is also used in China, Uzbekistan, Argentina and Uruguay.

What other types of plugs are there and where in the world are they used?

As you can see, there are many different types of plugs in the world, and the map of plugs and plugs on the globe is very varied. But even if you think it can't get any more complicated than this, here are some more plug models to introduce to you.

• Type E plug: It has two round pins arranged parallel to each other and one hole above them. This hole is where the third pin on the wall plug goes. It is used in: Morocco, Tunisia and Senegal. It is also used in some parts of Europe, including France, Belgium, Poland and Slovakia. It is compatible with the Type C plug, which is the plug used in Spain and most of Europe.
• Type F plug: Very similar to Type E, but has two earth clips. Used in many European countries, including Spain, as well as Jordan, South Korea, Indonesia, Thailand, Turkey, Uruguay and Vietnam. It is compatible with Type C, which is primarily used in Spain.
• Type H plug: Three pins form a triangle and are very similar to the type E plug. It is compatible with Type C used in Spain and Europe.

Important voltage depending on the type of plug
