Carnival Firenze Cruise Ship Review: An "Italian Style" Guide to Carnival's Second Ship

When Carnival Cruise Line introduced a Costa Cruises ship with a product they were calling "Fun Italian Style," I wondered if the ship would feel remotely authentic, given the usual Carnival vibe. Fun or sophisticated? Luxurious or tacky? Carnival Firenze is all of the above.

Step inside the ship and you're transported to an Italian theme park, an Italian alternative world where you hear "This is amore" in some form every day, take part in a gelato-tasting street festival, and watch waiters in sleeved suits belt out Justin Bieber songs in the dining room, while Michelangelo, a giant David in a fig leaf, holds court at the other side of the stage, frustrating the strobes.

Passengers can take photos on Vespa-style scooters and dine on Italian-themed burgers and cake sandwiches at a redesigned version of Carnival's most popular restaurant. A giant replica of Donatello's "Marzocco Tower" sits above the patio in Piazza del Duomo, the site of Carnival Firenze's massive welcome party. During the event, officials and crew members sprinkle on balconies and wave signs in the atrium, waving "ciao" and "benvenuti." The energetic party starts sailing on starboard.

Carnival florence is born, combining top Italian elements with elegant designs, such as pool decks with attractive bar facades, designed in the image of Italian architecture. I did.

CARNIVAL FIRENZE debuted in 2021 as Costa Firenze, Costa Firenze, the second ship of Costa Cruises (similar to CARNIVAL's Vista class). The ship 4. 126 passengers and 135. 156 tons are originally designed for the Chinese cruise market, accommodating more spaces and retail spaces than the average North American cruise ship. In addition, the pool is smaller than other ships, and there are many shaded areas around.

In early 2024, the ship was relocated to a carnival fleet, changed a part of the public space, and was renovated for two months, adding the color scheme of the carnival trademark blue wave. It is noteworthy that the yellow chimney of Costa, which is treated with the giant "C", is not attached to the carnival characteristic red, white, and blue whale tail.

There are many passengers from the West Coast, where you often travel by car to the departure port of Long Beach, California. You will also see carnibalists who can't travel from afar to ride a new ship.

Like other carnival passenger ships, meals have excellent cost performance and have more options that are far exceeding specialized restaurants that require additional charges. The dishes are wide, from Italian, Asian, seafood and steak, and the waiting time in the dining room is longer than average, but the service is generally friendly and efficient.

The cabin is based on the intermediate color, and is located meaningfully, including a comfortable convertible bed, drawer, hanging bar, folding shelf, and a bass room with abundant storage space. There are plenty of charging outlets.

Carnival Florence is full of activities such as trivia, movies, and games. Spa, lounge, and fitness center can provide mental and physical care, and water sliders and rope courses provide opportunities for adventur e-loving travelers to provide adrenaline.

The Italian atmosphere is inherited by all actions on the ship. It's either smiling you or making your eyes round. Anyway, it's very fun.

The charm of Carnival Florence

I didn't know what to expect in Carnival Florence, but I found two large patio, Duomo Square, which I found immediately after boarding. There is a bar in the center, with a pillar planet from the center with a replica of the Donatero gold lion statue at the top. To the ceiling drawn with a white cloud floating in the blue sky, it chases with eyes.

When you move between the decks, you can see that the stairs and elevator banks have Italian art. On the wall of the cabin corridor, an excerpt of famous Italian statues is printed. Photos of Florence's famous spots such as Duomo play a role in capital cabins.

The Lido Pool area is like a courtyard, and there are several facaders in the pool, mainly in the pool. These facado with a cruiser balcony include bars and board games, deri, burger joints (arranged in Italy), Briteau & Tacos Bar, which combines Mexican and Italian, and this ship's Javable). Is in. Cafe. It was my first time to visit the cruise pool area, but I didn't feel like I was on a ship.

On the first night in Carnival Florence, on the way to dinner from the cabin, I stopped and laughed. The stairs behind the ship are filled with prints from the floor to the ceiling, and at first it looks like there is no change, but if you look closely, you can find a very strange person. In this case, two young women were obviously examining the border of the drink package.

During the remaining voyage, I carefully examine each print, emerged an eerie old woman who needs to treat teeth, and a table rosage in the chaotic version of the "Last Supper" seen by Jesus. 。

Similarly, some of the walls of the two main dining rooms on the ship also had fun art. In Rococo, a bar that offers the lid pool, a baroque art decorated with a modern theme such as sunglasses and sad letters is drawn all over the wall. Women in a terrible dress are overlayed with exclamation marks such as "Hurry", "Dogs Before Dudes", and "SWAG".

I didn't like some cheap atmosphere on the ship (see below), but it is clear that both passengers and crews were excited. From the moment when the board was welcomed at a rough atrium party, the crew was friendly and friendly, and my colleagues were ready to start talking at any time.

Every waiter asked me today, and the room manager called me and greeted me every time I saw me. Javablue's crew checked every morning whether my order was correct.

In the carnival Florence, the arrangement of the stove may be a problem because the access from the end of the deck 3 to the end is cut off. Passengers who cross the deck below often have to cross, go up, or return to the destination.

Lido Market Place Buffet also has a problem at the peak of meals. The main passage through the space is narrow, especially for those who use wheelchairs, scooters, and pedestrians.

Depending on the location, the layout was simply difficult to understand. For example, the Tuscany Lounge has two entrance. The main entrance that can flow naturally from one space to another space, and the entrance of a hidden secondary that most people can only find after mistake.

I am a lot of art fans of Carnival Florence, but I was particularly disappointed by one work. In Michelangelo Restaurant, one of the two main dining rooms on the ship, there is a huge replica of Michelangelo's David statue on the landing of the two stairs connecting the two restaurants.

Previously, it was decorated with carnival pride, but was moved to Carnival Florence. After a group of Karen's pearls complained that it would be necessary to see artworks that have existed for more than 5th century, the leaves of figs, which have been created to cover the crotch, are still carefully formed. Partially interesting, but as a whole, it feels like a stereotype fusion, rather than a hymn in the world's most beautiful country.

Carnival Firenze's cabins range from windowed interiors and windowed exteriors with no natural light to balcony accommodations and suites, including La Terrazza cabins, a special zone that offers access to private cabanas, bars and sunlit areas.

Some cabins onboard have windows or portholes. Normally considered outside cabins, the line sells them as inside because they block some of the view. Booking such a cabin allows you to add natural light to your room at a low cost.

The ship does not have solo cabins, but there are 44 accessible rooms sprinkled throughout the basic categories. The rooms are a combination of fully accessible (accessible from both sides of the bed), fully accessible one-sided access (accessible from one side of the bed) and walk-in access (for people who can walk with an assistive device such as a walker or cane). .

Fully accessible cabins are flat-bottom cabins with no stairs, wide doors (32 inches), turning spaces, and bathrooms with grab bars and shower seats.

Even the most basic rooms have a queen bed that can be converted into two twin beds, and two nightstands with storage closets and reading lights. Some rooms also sleep up to four with a sofa bed or a combination sofa bed and fold-out bunk bed.

Each room has a mirrored vanity, desk, stool or chair, phone, mini-fridge, hair dryer, and multiple electrical outlets. The rooms also have ample closet space, including shelves, drawers, and rods for hanging clothes of various lengths. Inside each closet is a coded safe with a programmable four-digit pin. (I had trouble with the room safe during the first two days of the trip. I called the room manager and someone came to fix it within minutes.)

The main floor bathrooms have only showers, and are made of cheap-looking white plastic. Each shower has a fiberglass door instead of a curtain and a single dispenser for shower gel and shampoo. There's also a toilet, sink, fluffy white towels, and plenty of shelves for grooming items.

As you move up the cabin classes, the size and amenities increase.

Sweets include benefits such as priority chec k-in, priority boarding, priority ship, priority dinner time at the main dining, two large water bottles, bathrobe, upgraded bath amenities. In addition, the balcony and closet are also wider.

The suite bathroom has a bathtub in addition to shower. In addition, passengers who booked Ocean Suite and La Terraza Cabin (Carnival Florence version of the Havana Cavana Cabin) can use a dedicated Teraza Moda Nikko area with lounge chairs, hot tabs and bars. In the indoor Moda Bar & Lounge, you can enjoy breakfast by exclusive waiter every morning.

When I boarded the carnival Florence alone, I stayed in a cabin with a double sofa bed, a metal and a mesh chair and a small table for a small drink. It was too large for me and another, but it would have been too narrow in the maximum capacity fou r-person room.

I was particularly impressed with the comfort of the bed and the number of outlets for charging equipment. (The only small problem is that there is only a USB port for charging mobile phones at night). What is attentive is the motion activate nightlight, which lights up when you detect the movement in a dark room. He is a savior when he wants to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night.

Also, among the carnival fleet, it lacks sophistication compared to the older and more colorful ship, but I liked the interior that was not a murderous landscape compared to a new ship. The intermediate white, bright brown, beige is based on the soft blue color tone and the famous Italian landmarks printed from the floor to the ceiling.

For me, I didn't like the shower of water leaks where the floor was drenched every time I got the water, and the "Snoozin" door hanger, which often caught when closing the door. For the latter, I think it would be better to have a "Do not Disturb" button like many other new ships.

Carnival Firenze cabins require you to insert something into a slot near the door to turn on the lights (I used my room business card).

Speaking of room managers, my room manager was awesome, coming to clean my room once a day between 8am and 8pm. She always did a great job and was always available to help out when I wanted to send my laundry out to be pressed.

Carnival Firenze Restaurants and Bars

The food at Carnival Firenze is generally good, with plenty of options, including meal-free dishes and luxury options that cost extra.

In keeping with the ship's Italian theme, Carnival is putting a twist on popular restaurants from other ships, such as Guy's Burger Joint and Blueiguana Cantina, which is being introduced as a Mexican-Italian hybrid restaurant, Tomodoro. Carnival's staple delis are also getting an Italian twist.

In addition, Cucina del Capitano, an Italian cucina restaurant found on many other Carnival ships, has been replaced by IL Viaggio on Carnival's Florence.

There's a mix of old favorites and newer twists on existing restaurants, such as Lido Marketplace Buffet, Pizzeria del Capitano, Fahrenheit 555 Steakhouse, Bonsai Sushi and Bonsai Teppanyaki.

Plus, the ship has plenty of places to dine outdoors. Check out Bonsai Sushi and Bonsai Teppanyaki on Deck 5, for example, where you can enjoy your meal while looking out at sea.

Free Meals

Carnival Firenze has two main dining areas: Restaurant Medici (Deck 3, middle) and Restaurant Michelangelo (Decks 3 and 4, aft).

Michelangelo Restaurant is reserved for guests who select the Dining Room and can dine any time between 5pm and 9pm (YTD-only restaurants may change by sailing depending on how many people select this option). Medici Restaurant is a sit-down restaurant with two dining times: 17:30 and 19:45.

Both restaurants offer the same dinner menu, but only the larger Michelangelo restaurant is open for sea day brunch and breakfast (but not lunch) on port days. It also serves afternoon tea on sea days, while Medici restaurant offers a pasta bar for lunch on select sailing days.

I dined at Michelangelo three times during YTD. The first time was for brunch, when I had Chef Emeril Lagasse's signature veggie omelet with beignets. The second time was for dinner, where I had a simple but delicious Caprese salad and an Indian vegetarian sampler with spicy paneer pasta, chana mudra, pulao beans, and rice. (The last time was on the morning of disembarkation, where I enjoyed French vanilla toast with maple butter and caramelized banana.

Service was friendly but slow, and at dinner we waited longer than expected between courses. But both breakfast and brunch were perfectly paced, and the items came out quickly and looked and tasted fresh.

The Lido Marketplace is located on Deck 10. A free buffet in the middle of the ship, open daily for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and late-night snacks like cookies. Breakfast includes cereal, scrambled eggs, eggs, bacon, sausage, hash browns, cold cuts, and cheese. Lunch includes salads, a selection of hot dishes, side dishes, and a dessert bar. Dinner is similar, with salads, carvings, and hot dishes, such as Cornish game hen, rice, roast potatoes, green beans, egg rolls, fried shrimp, and Asian noodles.

Buffets are great for eating on the go, but I mostly avoid them because they get so crowded. This buffet is one of the nicest I've ever seen, with fake plants lining the aisles and umbrellas and lanterns hanging from the tables set up indoors, creating an outdoor bistro atmosphere.

I occasionally enjoyed a cone of soft serve ice cream at the two Swirls locations, a small niche with machines that also serve frozen yogurt. At one point, both Swirls machines broke, leaving a few executives and engineers standing around looking bewildered, a funny sight.

Elsewhere on Deck 10, near the Lido Pool, there are two complimentary joints, Tomodoro and Guy's Burger Joint, both with an Italian twist. Tomodoro serves as a Mexican-Italian alternative to Carnival's popular BlueIguana Cantina. Both booths are open for lunch and dinner.

One was mozzarella, balsamic, tomato, basil, and robata sauce, and the other was pepperoni, marinara, robata sauce, mozzarella, provolone, and parmesan. Both were decent, and I was sad to see my favorite burger, the pig patty, not on the ship's menu.

Tomodoro's menu includes tacos and burritos, as well as Italian hero meatballs, Sicilian chicken wraps, and torta de Milanese. The burritos were great as always, but my hot take on the changes made to both BlueIguana Cantina and Guy's Burger Joint is, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it."

Out the back is Pizzeria Del Capitano, which is open 19 hours a day. (On sea days, the wait could be as long as 20 minutes, but it was worth it. (If you don't want to wait in line, you can order pizza delivered to your cabin through room service for $6.) Choose from margherita, pepperoni, four cheese, mushroom, or prosciutto. You can also order specialty pies like chicken teriyaki or Korean barbecue steak for an extra fee.

I was surprised by Carnival's Il Mercato, an Italian delicatessen that's open from midday until late at night. Normally the deli is located in the Lido Marketplace, but they moved it to a quieter, less crowded area on Deck 11, directly above the Lido pool, to make room for a chicken wing stand to be set up on the buffet for an extra charge.

Il Mercato seems like a small afterthought given the area's portable appearance, but the outdoor atmosphere and food are great. The menu features cake sandwiches, hot dogs, and Italian sausage sandwiches. There are eight hot and cold sandwiches, including grilled ham and cheese, Reuben, cheesesteak, hearth-roasted tomato, mozzarella, and arugula, chicken salad, and turkey and Swiss. Try the cheesesteak with peppers and onions. Despite its rather unappetizing appearance, it's delicious and rivals most of the ones in Philadelphia.

Carnival is also doing something interesting with the ship's Shack Seafood. Instead of just serving seafood, this 10-space deck starts as a Breakfast Shack in the morning and transforms into Chicken Shack at noon. Both offer a variety of chicken sandwiches with free fries, pasta salad, and other sides. (Carnival Firenze doesn't have the big Shack Chicken like the rest of the fleet, so this was a good way to use the space and provide a similar dining experience for passengers.)

I didn't stay in a suite, but I did get to enjoy the breakfast that's available every day at Moda Bar and Deck 5 Lounge, exclusive to La Terrazza and Ocean Suite passengers. If you're staying in one of those cabins and it's available, you won't want to miss the quiche or avocado toast.

Other free dining options include La Strada Grill (Deck 5 midship), Bar Fresh Creations Salads (Deck 15 forward Sundeck), and room service (free breakfast). I didn't try any of the options at La Strada, as it's only open from noon to 2:30 p. m. On beach days, the fresh creations were so full when I stopped by that I didn't have breakfast in my room.

Of these three options, the most exciting menu is at La Strada: Sicilian chicken hero, roast beef rolls, Italian sausage, smoked pork, and mac and cheese, with a choice of salads and sides.

Extra charge

Carnival already has an Italian restaurant, Cucina del Capitano, on many of its ships, providing a homely atmosphere and family-friendly recipes from an Italian captain on all of its ships. Surprisingly, this restaurant is not on Carnival Firenze or its sister ship Carnival Venice (another ship offering "Italian-style entertainment").

IL Viaggio is an upscale Italian restaurant with a cover charge of $42 per person, nearly double that of most Cucina del Capitano ships. IL Viaggio's décor is elegant but understated, and it's open only for dinner. It's not overloaded with red, white, green, and stereotypical Italian decor, which sets it apart from the more themed areas of the ship.

The menu, billed as a "dish-by-dish culinary journey through the regions of Italy," contained some of the best food I've ever had on a ship. I thoroughly enjoyed the house-made burrata; the pollo parmigiana pizza with chicken skin; the gnocchi with goat cheese and truffle oil; and the gelatin pizza.

If you're looking for a decent steak dinner and don't mind spending a penny, Fahrenheit 555 on Deck 5 is the place to go. Not only is it one of the most consistently great ocean steakhouses ship to ship, but the $49-per-person cover charge is a fraction of what you'd pay at a land-based steakhouse.

I had a fantastic filet steak with onion rings, broccoli, and chimichurri sauce.

Interestingly, the steakhouse was added after the ship departed. It's located in the space of a former hotpot restaurant, so the vibe is definitely Asian, with black counters and tables and crimson rugs and chairs. Parts of the space feature black mesh to add to the atmosphere.

Bonsai Sushi and Bonsai T'eppanyaki are both located near Deck 5 and are both open for lunch (sail days only) and dinner.

One night on a trip, we ate a light sushi dinner, but it was only 11 dollars (dollars of green soybeans, $ 8 in California).

The chef skipped jokes, sang songs, made burning onion volcanoes, and made snakes with rice. Thankfully, there was no need to catch the volatile ingredients with the mouth. With a $ 42 cover charge, you can choose either white shrimp, pork belly yakitori, spy sheatna, and miso soup or Kabuki salad.

From there, select the main dishes such as lobster tail, shrimp, grilled chicken, grilled tofu, grilled black cod, fillemignon, or combination. I chose fillet, but I am satisfied with the decision. Both meat and garnish rice and vegetables were very tasty.

Bonsai Teppanyaki is also open for lunch and costs $ 38 per person on a similar menu.

Javablue Cafe, located on a deck 10 just from the lido pool's courtyard, is one of my favorite places on any carnival ship. In the warm Mexican climate, I didn't always like CARNIVAL FIRENZE's Alfessco Location.

Javablue coffee is separate, but it is cheaper than Starbucks. Furthermore, if you apply for a punch card, you can buy 6 cups of coffee.

Javablue also sells baked goods such as cupcakes, cookies, and donuts for a fee.

Room service is charged for each item (excluding free continental breakfast every morning). The door hanger is no longer provided, so you need to order a cabin or a hub app. The menu on the CARNIVAL FIRENZE app listed items such as pizza and sandwiches, looked smaller than other ships. Unlike the secretly tribute bar in the corner of a carnival Excel class ship, the version of the Carnival Florence is more brighter and is located in the center of the main promenade area along the inner deck 5. This bar, designed to honor men and women sailing, has a relaxed and sports ba r-like atmosphere. The bench seat of the bar is the perfect place to watch big races on multiple TVs.

He was a regular in the Tuscan Lounge in the center of the deck 5. The lounge has a table, a dance floor, and a projection screen. On the other side of the corridor that penetrates the space is a bar with a stool, and there is a table with a black and white striped umbrella.

Fritzyante is one of my absolute favorite bars. There are various spli t-style drinks there. I enjoyed Frittzante Spritz (dried motto, moscart wine, triple second, club soda) on the second night of the ship, and returned to the bar to try the cocktail. If you have booked a nearby Il Viagio, it's the best place to drink before dinner.

To be honest, at first, the bar was Amari. SMACK, in the middle of the main street of Deck 5, offers cocktails using amari (Italian herb liqueur), as the name suggests.

I didn't see it crowded for many days, but maybe the timing I passed was bad. It was full on the fourth or fifth day of a seven night cruise. I also learned later that I was upset at the carnival in Florence that the amari was replaced by the alchemy bar, but I was upset at first, but I later learned that I could order popular alchemy drinks such as Cure and Cucumber Sunrise.

Casino (or no n-smoking casinos on deck 5), alcohol tasting, participation in sports tournaments, deck parties, miniature golf, dance class, spa, jewelry, shopping seminars, etc.

The cloud 9 spa on the front deck 12 offers a variety of menus, such as massage and facials. The Connected Fitness Center is small, but has personal training and fitness classes, as well as equipment that can be used by passengers for free. Carnival Florence has no thermal suite.

If you want to enjoy the sunburn outdoors, use one of the two pools, the deck 10 midship, Lido Pool and the 1 0-Zen tail, Versillia Pool. Both are ridiculously small for the number of passengers, but there are more shade than other cruise ship pools.

If you want to enjoy the Sun Lounger in the sun and are a little away from the pool itself, please go to the 12 decks on the two decks. There are so many sun laujers that block a part of the jogging course (1 miles on 4 laps). (1 mile on 4 laps).

Surprisingly, there is no hot tab in the lid pool. If you want to enjoy it, you have to go to two pool Versilia. There are also two hot tabs in the Solarium area (21 years old or older) exclusively for adults in the front deck 15, and there are also two in the dedicated outdoor area LA Terraza. There is no pool in Serenity and La Terazza.

If you are a baby who loves thrills, go to the water slider on the deck 12 and the water workes, which has a children's launch site (the entrance of the slide is on the deck 15). Children and adults who are not afraid of altitude can enjoy the top rope course inside the deck 15. There is a small golf course on the ship just below.

At Camp Ocean, Deck 11, carnival kids clubs will be held. Kids Club divides the children into four groups: turtles (2 years old or younger), penguins (2-5 years old), rays (6-8 years old), and sharks (9-11). The camp facility is connected to the outdoor playground equipment area used on sunny days.

In the day program, you can enjoy art & craft, theme parties, scientific experiments, games, and picture books, depending on your age. Group Babysitter can be used until 1:00 am as part of Camp Ocean's Night Owrs program. (Ocean camp daytime activity is free).

"Deer Future Hazband" is at least relatively new. Debuted in the carnival Jubili in late 2023 and was released on more ships. A couple who has decided to have a wedding on a cruise ship brings several friends. They are on board while singing and dancing pop songs, wearing clothes for the festival, and raising the ceremony. If you are a U. S. citizen and are taking a cruise departing or arriving at the same U. S. port, you will need a current passport, driver's license, or other government-issued photo ID and birth certificate to board. Other forms of ID, such as a passport card, are acceptable. However, for other cruises, including cruises that depart from the U. S. and end in another U. S. port, a passport or passport card is required.

Your passport must be valid for at least six months from the cruise end date. For cruises departing from an international port, a passport is required. Note: It is important that your name on the reservation matches exactly as it appears on your passport or other proof of citizenship. Booking

Carnival Florence passengers will have a service charge of $16 per person per day automatically added to their bill. Guests staying in suites will pay $18 per person per day. (An 18% gratuity is added at the bar, cafeteria, spa services, and chef's table.

Wi-Fi

Carnival's Wi-Fi is generally fast and reliable, though it can get annoying if it automatically disconnects multiple times, so don't be surprised.

Plans have been significantly increased in recent years, and each plan is applied only to one device. (You can cancel the connection from one device to another device with the same account, but you cannot connect to multiple devices at once unless you purchase an additional plan).

There are three plan levels:

Social: Most social media, airlines websites, and apps can be accessed $ 18 a day ($ 126 for a week on a weekly cruise).

At night, formal dress codes only apply slowly. Most nights are "cruise casual", and khaki, jeans, polo shirts, sari, etc. are common.
